READ THE INTERVIEW:
Where do you live:
We live in SW London, we’ve been in this part of London for the last two years but only moved into our House in April 2020.
How long have you been renting?
I grew up in Kent and left the comfort of Mumma’s home to move to London for school and have been here ever since. I love London and have loved through renting the opportunity of discovering many areas. Charlotte moved to London after University and has been in London for 6 years.
What do you do?
We are creatives and have just launched our new Interior Design startup.
I’m an Actor and Charlotte is an Interior Designer but we wanted to be part of the change we want to see in the world. Make Interior Design more diverse and spread the message that you can do anything, no matter where you are.
You can follow us on instagram @_rootedinteriors; come and see what we’re up to.
What is your favourite room?
Our favourite room has got to be the Living Room.

Why is this your favourite room?
Its our favourite room in the house because its had the biggest transformation and we really love what we’ve created. We were worried about the shape of the room when we first looked at renting the property, the house is on a strange angle and we were worried that our sofa wouldn’t fit. We sometimes laugh; if we weren’t able to make it fit, we definitely wouldn’t have moved in.
The room is now inviting, cosy, it is also a dangerous comfy. We often fall asleep on the sofa and wake up a few hours later and have to drag ourselves to bed.
How have you decorated it? I.e what style?
We painted 2/4 of the wall in a dark blue, we didn’t want to do a traditional feature wall and wanted to create something a bit different. We did have a limited budget to turn this space around but we think we pulled it off.
It did take us time to find the right colour and get hold of the paint as we were trying to decorate whilst all the shops were closed through Lockdown. But as soon as they opened we went straight to the paint mixing service to get the colour we had seen online.
I would say our vibe is more Scandi, but we do use a lot of Mid Century items which we love and really complements the space.
Is there anything in this room that you are particularly proud of?
We are proud of the colour, Going bold in a small space that doesn’t get much light could have made the room dark and dingy.
But by enhancing the shadows and bringing the room in, really made it into a relaxing space which we enjoy spending time in.
We also love plants, they contrast against the dark blue and add life into the space. Over the years we’ve built up our collection and has been great since moving to our house to display them, making use of the shelving and different levels.
Where do you like to shop for home décor?
Most of our items have been bought second-hand, we do enjoy finding gems at good value allowing us to stretch our budget. We’ve bought from auction houses, online auctions, Facebook Marketplace and Ebay to name a few. Again our collection has been built over time and has all come to great use and will continue to move with us in the future.
The brands that we’ve most recently purchased from and particularly enjoy what they’re doing are Lick, Patch Plants, Made.com, Jes Rose and Ikea.
How have you been using this room during self-isolation?
This was the last room in the house to be decorated and we’ve been really grateful to have the time of being ‘locked in’ to commit to decorating without the interruption of work or other commitments.
This room serves as the sanctuary for early mornings and evenings. A space where you can relax, Netflix and chill or think and prepare yourself for the day.
One word to describe how this room makes you feel today?
